More About the Author

In her earliest memories, Emily Refermat recalls making up stories, whether it was invisible fairies sliding down a pizzeria pine tree or two sisters on a suspenseful nighttime adventure – a bedtime story for her younger sister. In college, she double majored in English Writing and Psychology, which are an ideal combination for a writer and aspiring author. Despite that, it would take her nearly two decades before she published her first book, a young adult fantasy novel called The Invisible War. During that time, she worked for a business-to-business publishing company writing articles and advancing to the role of lead editor of a print magazine and online portal for the vending industry.

For those years, however, the stories in her head never really quieted. So in 2018, when circumstances aligned for her to cease working full-time and instead go for her dream of becoming an author, she jumped at the chance. She began work on the most recent story spinning out in her mind, which would become her debut novel, The Invisible War

She is grateful most to her family and friends who supported her on her journey towards publishing. Her husband was her cheerleader from day one. Her children served as sounding boards for ideas and inspiration on what today’s readers like. Friends read early drafts and gave her the confidence to keep going. Even her golden retriever was a supporter, quietly encouraging her from the plush-covered dog bed beside her writing desk.
